Runners and walkers taking part in the Totalsports Ladies Race in Johannesburg on Saturday, 09 August 2014 can look forward to a fun “on route” experience including running alongside a number of Giant Puppets from Giant Match Association.
“The Giant Match Association is a community entertainment company,” says Oupa Bodibe, Director Giant Match Association. “We had a great time at the Totalsports Ladies Race in Durban and really enjoyed the excitement of the runners. Some of the entrants actually talked directly to the puppets. It was really exciting. The seven characters that will attend the Johannesburg race will include: Nkyamaba, Father John, Uncle Pitso, Nokukhanya, Mathobile and the twins. The Totalsports Ladies Race brings communities together, allowing all to share in an experience on National Women’s Day. We are looking forward to making more lifelong friends”.
Each Giant Puppet weighs less than 5 kilograms. Most of the material used to make the puppets come from recycled paper mache, 50ml empty water bottles, PVC pipes, aluminium, backpacks and other costumes.

Top runners to look out for in the 10km Totalsports Ladies Race will include: Rutendo Nyahora and Charne Bosman, both from the Nedbank Running Club.

Charity Support: Held in celebration of National Women’s Day, the Totalsports Ladies Race supports PinkDrive, a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) that is committed to improving breast cancer awareness, education, and providing and offering services to women across South Africa.
